A complete community energy and mobility ecosystem

How the regional power pool works

The first five Cumbrian Resilient Community Projects, Appleby, Penrith, Warcop, Brough, and Kirkby Stephen, form a shared Resilient Power Pool cluster.

  • Each local Community Energy Service (CES) contributes to an interoperable network that can operate independently or collaboratively.
  • The cluster is built on standardised infrastructure, distributed generation, battery storage, bidirectional EV integration, and local energy trading.
  • It enables dynamic energy balancing and peer-to-peer exchange of surplus power across participating communities.
  • It supports coordinated emergency response through DESO activation and mutual aid during local outages.
  • The result is stronger energy security, lower costs, better asset utilisation, and long-term community energy sovereignty across the region.
